Preliminary Data, not trial resolution

Turn 05 is a "Go to Trial" round and will only involve Icahbod Crane and
Grumf the Caveman

The Trial of Little Nellie, accused of Public Lewdness

Little Nellie charged with Public Lewdness
Prosecution: Ichabod Crane
Defence: Grumf the Caveman
Jury Value: 3 (Guilt of suspects) +  5 (Severity of Charge) = 8
Winner will receive: $140 (Court Money for the Charge) + $30 (Legal Fees) =
$170

Mike says: Please can the Prosecution and Defence prepare and submit their cases?

As this is the second time we are doing this I think we have learned a lot
from the previous round. So I suggest the following...

(1) The Prosecutor Makes his Case - you should construct your case from the
cards in your hand, and provide a narrative as to how these support your
case.

(2) Plea Bargaining:

 (a) the Prosecutor makes his offer (which can be conditional on the
current Jury Value)

(b) the Defence accepts or rejects the offer (which can be
conditional on the Jury Value, and the value of the offer)
If the Plea is accepted, then the case will end.
There is no reason why there should not be correspondence between
the Prosecution and the Defence over this prior to the submission of orders.

Steve should submit his Prosecution Case and his Plea Bargaining offer as
soon as possible sending it by e-mail to both me and to JW. I will work out
the Jury Value - but it would help if you can do this so all I have to do is
check your sums and correct it if incorrect!

JW will then need to decide whether he will accept the offer. If it is
accepted, the trial is over, if not then...

(3) The Defence Makes his Case - again you should construct your case from
the cards in your hand, and provide a narrative as to how these support the
defence case.

JW will send his case by e-mail to both Steve and to me. Again, it would be
very useful if you can work out the Jury Value as you go along.

(4) The Prosecutor may submit a Final Argument (one final card to be played)
and provide a narrative. This can be conditional on the Jury Value after the
Defence has made his case.

(5) Final Plea Bargaining Orders (as in 3, above)

Steve can then submit his Final Argument based on JW's evidence - and make a
Final Plea Bargain which JW is at liberty to accept or decline. Again Steve
should submit his Final Argument to both me and to JW directly. JW will then
need to decide whether he accepts it or not.

If the trial continued - i.e. the plea bargains were not accepted I will
Roll the Jury to determine the outcome of the trial.

----------
If you intend to play cards that need a dice roll and you have never used
the Dice Server before - here are some simple instructions...

Construct an e-mail with the following in the body...

#P brian@netsoc.ucd.ie
#P mike.dean@psychozine.co.uk
#S 6
#D 1
#R 1
#L 1
#C Defence calls Nice Tall Annie

The only changes you need to make to the e-mail are in respect of the "#P"
entries - make sure my e-mail is in one of them, and that of the other
person in the trial in the other. In the "#C" put a SHORT comment explaining
the purpose of the dice roll. Send the e-mail to: dice@pbm.com - wait for
the answer to come back. It isn't always immediate - so be patient!
----------

Please get going on your cases - somehow I don't think the prosecutor's case
is going to be very long! :o)

I don't intend to set a deadline for this as I believe you are all adults
and will do this as soon as you can. Obviously if it appears to be taking
too long I will step in! I also suggest that if you are happy with your
opponents case that you don't wait for me to respond before replying - as
most of you know I work away from home sometimes and may not have access to
mail for a few days.

Only AFTER the Go to Trial round is complete will I allocate cards etc for
Turn 06 which will be an administration round.

cheers

MIKE
